Help Pages

For a site called Modem-Help, there have been precious few pages on this site devoted to generic help on modems across this last year or two (although hundreds devoted to the individual manufacturers). The old HTML site at modem-help.co.uk has a large miscellany of Help & Information pages, and is still available. The growing size of that site, together with it’s flat-file format, had made it an increasing pain to update, which is why this server-side Database-driven site was begun in August 2001, and instituted in November 2002. These words are written almost exactly 2 years later and, if I had realised at the beginning exactly how long it would all take, maybe I would never had got started!.

There is one Help page on identifying Unknown Modems, which also gives info (if you really want it) on EEPROM IDs.

There is community support + discussion in the Forums for each manufacturer. These support forums can be read by anyone, although you will need to register with the forums if you want to post a message (registration is free).

It is also possible to send a message to the site-maintainer, asking for help. This is done via private forums and, if you want to get access to them, you will need to Sign-up with this site (link at top-right on each page). The bad news is that this will cost you money; the good news is that the cost is very low.

Site Info, History & Page Stats

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.

Diligently put together in the UK by Alex Kemp. All efforts have been taken to ensure the veracity of what is written - if you know of any errors or omissions then please let us know.
