General Information
- These are full, Hardware, 4th generation chipsets used within ATM-based, rate-adaptive DMT ADSL modems at both the Telco Central Office (CO) (ATU-C master-mode) or at the Customer Premises (CPE) (ATU-R slave-mode), this latter decided by the Firmware installed. They conform to:
- ANSI T1.413 Issue 2
- ITU G.992.1 (G.dmt) (Annex A & B)
- ITU G.992.2 (G.lite)
- G.994.1 (G.hs)
Multiple interfaces are provided:- Local-loop Line Interface via an integrated AFE.
- ATM Utopia (levels 1 & 2) interface.
- RS-232 Serial port, used for Command & Control management functions & for Firmware upgrades.
- 8-bit parallel bus (same as Serial port).
- Dual port RAM Mailbox.
The MTK20131 is a 3-chip chipset using an ADSL Transceiver Controller separate to the DMT Modem/Framer, whilst the MTK20140 (fully compatible with the MTK20131) integrates the Modem & Controller into a single chip. CPE implementations include PC NICs & Routers, whilst possible CO equipment includes DSL Access Multiplexers (DSLAM) & ADSL line cards for ATM switches and multiplexers.More information is available on the chipset via the MTB20140EB & MTB20131EB Evaluation Boards.

† Key
Mfc: the company no longer makes/supplies modems and/or their chipsets, or has been taken over, or otherwise fallen into commercial Tophet.
Modem: it is no longer in production.
Chip, Chipset, Family or Family-Type: it is no longer produced at the Foundry.
In short, the item marked with a † has shuffled off this mortal coil, it has gone to meet it’s maker, to sing with the choir invisible; it is, not to put too fine a point upon it, an ex-modem (-Mfc, -Chip, -Chipset, -Family or -Type).
Site Info, History & Page Stats
These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (still maintained, but just re-direction pages to this site). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.
Diligently put together in the UK by Alex Kemp. All efforts have been taken to ensure the veracity of what is written - if you know of any errors or omissions then please let us know.
