The AR5008AP-2NG is a 2-stream 2x2 MIMO 802.11n design offering 300Mbps. WLAN is based upon 2 chips: an AR2122 radio chip & an AR5416 BaseBand/MAC chip.

Atheros provides reference-drivers and reference-firmware to it’s customers--who are modem manufacturers--but does not provide drivers nor firmware to the public.

A “Reference Design” is an actual, working modem, that is designed to be used as a model within the design process as a modem manufacturer plans their new modems. In practice, it is often copied wholesale. That has the pleasant side-effect of allowing drivers--and often even firmware--of being fully transferable between different models. It depends upon the degree of customisation.

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time).
