General Information
This was originally the ZyDAS ZD1211B 802.11bg USB2 chipset. Atheros bought out ZyDAS & re-named this chipset as the AR5007UG. The renamed chipset retains all ZyDAS Hardware IDs within the EEPROM, however (which means that it gets identified as a ZyDAS chipset by everything except the Windows’ drivers.

It is one of the few Hardware USB chipsets. Most USB devices offload most signal processing & such computation work upon the host computer; indeed, many are little more than USB interfaces. Such software-devices are extremely cheap, and also prone to error, including crashing the host computer. In complete contrast, the AR5007UG is a hardware design that requires only standard drivers for the USB-2 bus.
