About Company: Broadcom Corp. Founded in 1991 formed in 1991 by ex-TRW executives & based in California, Broadcom is “a leading provider of highly integrated silicon solutions that enable broadband communications and networking of voice, video and data services” - “Connecting everything”. The content on the page link (at left) concentrates entirely on Broadband, but the company has also produced both NICs & analog modem chipsets. Their customers are emphatically not the public.
WIDCOMM, Inc. (May 10 2004) News of Broadcom paying 49.0 million USD, cash, to aquire WIDCOMM lock, stock & barrel. How this will affect the software that WIDCOMM supply for other chipset manufacturers’ products is not spelt out.
WIDCOMM, Inc. ‘WIDCOMM’ (yes, they really do spell it ALL-CAPITALS) stands for “Wireless Internet and Data/Voice Communications”. It was formed in June 1998 by “a newly formed team of handpicked engineers” and specifically produces software for Bluetooth devices. One of these companies is Broadcom.
Drivers - Drivers & Scripts: Drivers for NICs only.
Home: A nicely laid-out, attractive web site, in spite of the Flash.
Products: Cable, DSL, LAN network chipsets - no modems are featured, although there are ‘Evaluation Systems’ & ‘Reference Designs’, used by modem manufacturers during the design of their own modems.

Site Info, History & Page Stats

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.

Diligently put together in the UK by Alex Kemp. All efforts have been taken to ensure the veracity of what is written - if you know of any errors or omissions then please let us know.
