Conexant RD00-D???-??? RH56D-PCI HCF DFTS Reference Design-2 :: Info

Notes and Comments

This modem was supplied by Rockwell to modem Manufacturers as a model to use during design of their own modems. Models were also provided with VoiceView (a form of DVSD).

Take care to ID this modem correctly - whilst the chipset name is RH56D/SP-PCI, the R6789-51 chip (the MDP) is prefixed with “RHP56D/SP” & is part of a 2-chip chipset. Another chipset--the MonoPak--is prefixed on the single-chip with “RH56D/SP-PCI” but is a different chipset.

The chipset is capable of worldwide country support as long as a World Class DAA is fitted by the OEM. Country selection is then via the AT+GCI command, which selects from Country parameters placed into the Registry by the .INF file during installation of the modem.

This would have been the second “Reference Design” produced by Rockwell for the same modem (it may not have existed, and is used here primarily to give links to the generic drivers from Conexant), fitted with an updated 2-chip chipset. The generic drivers from Conexant will load both versions. Each board used one of 2 LSD chips: a 11235 or a 11229. Each of these chips came in FCC or Global versions. That makes 4 combinations of chips possible for each so-called identical-modem!

This is the combination of chips possible for this specific design, together with the hardware-ID used for the modem:

    MDP : LSD : Hardware-ID
  • R6789-51 : 11235-12 : 1025
  • R6789-51 : 11235-14 : 1025

Key

Mfc: the company no longer makes/supplies modems and/or their chipsets, or has been taken over, or otherwise fallen into commercial Tophet.

Modem: it is no longer in production.

Chip, Chipset, Family or Family-Type: it is no longer produced at the Foundry.

In short, the item marked with a has shuffled off this mortal coil, it has gone to meet it’s maker, to sing with the choir invisible; it is, not to put too fine a point upon it, an ex-modem (-Mfc, -Chip, -Chipset, -Family or -Type).

Site Info, History & Page Stats

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.

Diligently put together in the UK by Alex Kemp. All efforts have been taken to ensure the veracity of what is written - if you know of any errors or omissions then please let us know.
