General Information
This is the 1-MB-ROM version of it’s sister-RCVDL56ACF/SVD chipset. The quality & speed of connections are decided by the version of code in the Firmware:
    DLS=External
    DLP=Internal

  • v0.519D : V34 firmware.
  • v1.000 -> v1.200 : K56Flex firmware.
  • v2.000 -> v2.013A : transitional K56flex firmware; detects former-K56flex ISPs now using V.90 headends.
  • v2.065 & later : V.90 firmware.
Unlike many current modems, it is the Firmware which is the principal factor in deciding how good it’s connections will be. Drivers are important, but they cannot make bad Firmware good.

Take care with Firmware to make sure that it is only for this 1 MB ROM version (chip=R6761-21 [FCC] or R6761-22 [Global], EEPROM=INT0000). Later chipsets were issued with a 2 MB ROM (chip=R6771-21 [FCC] or R6771-22 [Global], EEPROM=RSS0262) & their Firmware cannot be used with these modems. The drivers, however, will usually work with any version.

(The following is specific with Origo modems & similar with other manufacturers:) The Firmware is offered in 14 different Country-versions + “Standard” (Taiwan, Canada, U.S.A , Japan, Mexico, Hong Kong). The results of an ati4 command will indicate the current Country version of the Firmware in the modem.

If you upgrade the modem Firmware it is important to match the Country-version to the type of modem that you have, as it has been produced in both FCC & “World” (Global) versions. Probably the easiest way to confirm this is to look at the main chip on the card. The ISA FCC version will show RCVDL56ACF/SP R6761-21 whilst the Global version will show RCVDL56ACFW/SP R6761-22. Only the Standard Firmware should be used with the FCC modem, whilst any country-Firmware can be used with the Global version. Well also provides a Standard-X3 Firmware for use in all other countries. This does not detect a dial-tone & should be used together with the special X3 drivers. What a palaver.

v2.000 -> v2.013A “The Wizard reports xxx is not a V.90 ISP”; it detects formerly-K56flex ISP’s now using V.90 connections. xxx will have been V.90 from the start & the wizard is wrong - go ahead & flash anyway.
Flash “hangs” at 91% Go and make a cup of tea - the flashing process must not be interrupted or the modem will be useless, permanently. This behaviour is normal & it normally goes to completion in a few minutes.
The old CIS USA site warned that older firmware needs flashing step-by-step, else damage will be caused. With CIS this means:
    1.002 -> 2.083 -> 2.210
