General Information
This is the 2-MB-ROM version of it’s sister-RCVDL56ACF/SVD chipset. The extra MB allowed connection to either V.90-upgraded ISPs or to ISPs still using K56flex-Headends without requiring further Firmware-flashing. This was a big issue in 1998, but unfortunately now puts an excellent modem almost into the situation of the Dodo.
    It is the quality of the Firmware-code which principally affects it’s connections. Drivers are important, but cannot make bad Firmware good. Unfortunately, whilst 1 MB Firmware was common, 2 MB Firmware was rare. To make a bad situation worse, there is also a 2 MB PLL-Firmware. None of these 3 can be mixed--Firmware code is specific for specific chipsets, and sometimes for a specific modem. Please also look at the notes on Country-version Firmware under the 1 MB sister-chipset.

    Some modems were supplied with X3 (no-dial-tone) Firmware. They require special drivers with either RSS0263 (ISA) or RSS0273 (serial) .INF IDs.
