General Information
Originated by Conexant on 15 December, 1999 this was a development of the enormously successful, Rockwell-originated HCF chipsets. The main innovation was the use of the “SmartDAA” silicon chip. This latter had the advantages of zero power-draw from the telephone line, elimination of mechanical components, simple worldwide homologation of the entire chipset, improved lightning protection and, of course, meant that Conexant could sell the modem manufacturers a DAA.

This is the USB variant of the SmartHCF.

Please note that--unlike almost all other HCF chipsets--there are no Linux drivers for this chipset. Linux drivers are provided for the Cadmus2-USB chipset (another HCF chipset, but designed for the Mac).

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone).
