General Information
- First released on 30 April 2002, the chipset Family has had V.34 & V.32bis options from the beginning (designed for embedded applications such as POS Terminals, Set-Top Boxes, Video Recorders, Metering, Security and Remote Site Management) as well as the ‘traditional’ V.90/V.92 external dial-up modem. Flash-ROM is an option, allowing updating/customisation of the MCU firmware and MDP code modules--this is typical of all ACF modem Family types.
V.92 PCM-upstream, FastPOS (V.29) & various other added features/bugfixes (such as no longer disconnecting when switching from voice to fax mode) were introduced on 30 April 2003 within the updated masked firmware code of an updated set of chip revisions (from CX81801-3x/5x/6x to CX81801-7x/8x/9x).
All chipsets use either the 20463 SmartDAA2 (Global only) or the lead-free 20493 SmartDAA3. All chipsets are DFT with Full-Duplex Speakerphone options using a 20437 VC.
With 3 sub-types in the Family, a major chip-code revision across all chipsets, lead-free variations, et al, there are a bewilderingly-large number of possible chips within this Family of chipsets. It all boils down to a simple 2-chip chipset with Speakerphone option:
- SCM: 81801
- DAA: 20463 or 20493
- VC: 20437 (option)

Site Info, History & Page Stats
These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (still maintained, but just re-direction pages to this site). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.
Diligently put together in the UK by Alex Kemp. All efforts have been taken to ensure the veracity of what is written - if you know of any errors or omissions then please let us know.
