HUAWEI E392 LTE USB Stick 4G Mobile Broadband Dongle :: Info

Notes and Comments

HUAWEI logo

This is a USB modem supplied for use on 3G/4G networks.

It is a USBModeSwitch’ device; it acts both as flash-storage and, after switching mode, as a modem. When first supplied it starts up as storage, then (if possible) auto-installs (normally Windows’ or Mac) drivers, then switches into modem-mode. After that first insertion, on subsequent insertions it will immediately auto-switch to modem-mode (though not on unsupported OS such as Linux without the use of usb_modeswitch).

The following information is for those wanting to use it with a Thomson/Technicolor router (supported):

The router needs to be supplied with detailed technical info on the dongle before it can be used by the router. This page will first give that info, and then the setup string which needs to be placed (if not already there) within the user.ini at ‘mobile.ini’:

Site Info, History & Page Stats

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.

Diligently put together in the UK by Alex Kemp. All efforts have been taken to ensure the veracity of what is written - if you know of any errors or omissions then please let us know.
