Info on BABT & FCC IDs

BABT & FCC

(These always refer on this site to a Modem, but are not stored in an EEPROM.)

(This database makes no distinction between FCC IDs, FCC Grantee Codes or FCC Equipment Product Codes - they are all listed as FCC IDs.)

Governments are addicted to control & the Telecom authorities--as agents of Government--achieved this by licensing all devices that aspired to be connected to the telephone line. In Britain this was a BABT approval & in America a FCC approval (the BABT approvals have been discontinued - EU & all that). Neither carries any weight in the other country, and neither is found in the EEPROM - they are carried on official-looking stickers on the modem itself. There are online databases that are much more thorough in this area than mine:

Site Info, History & Page Stats

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.
