UniModem EEPROM IDs

Info on UniModem EEPROM IDs

UniModem
(Windows only - always refers on this site to a modem).

These are required with Windows NT4 (a mostly non-PnP OS), and supported on win2k/95/98, but they have fallen into disuse - winMe/XP do not support the ID. This is partly due to the success of the PCI bus & partly (I suspect) due to Microsoft obfuscation. Microsoft stated (the link is gone) that the UniModem ID is obtained “..by interrogating a modem with ID commands..” but never--to the best of my knowledge--stipulates anywhere what these commands are.

A UniModem ID looks like this:
  • “UNIMODEM059D60F5” (no quotes)

Site Info, History & Page Stats

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone).
