Info on USB EEPROM IDs

USB ID

(Exactly as PCI IDs they refer on this site either to Vendors--manufacturers/ODM/OEM/Retailers--or to the chipsets.)

In similar fashion to PCI IDs there are 4 components to the USB ID: all except the last is 4 hexadecimal (base 16) digits long, represented by the numbers 0-9,A-F (65,536 unique combinations for each):

Vendor ID (USB1) All of the publicly-known IDs are in this database. Allocated by the USB Implementers Forum
Product ID (USB2) Allocated by the manufacturer.
Device RN (USB3) Allocated by the manufacturer.
MultiFunction Index (USB4) (2 digits only) Allocated by the manufacturer.

The final USB ID then appears in the following formats:

“USB\VID_USB1&PID_USB2” (no quotes)
“USB\VID_USB1&PID_USB2&REV_USB3” (no quotes)
“USB\VID_USB1&PID_USB2&MI_USB4” (no quotes)

(there are also others, but not used in this database) These final formats--or variants on them--is what appears within the EEPROM ID or .inf ID.

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (sadly, now gone). The current format allows superb search facilities, customisation by Registered members, plus is quick ‘n’ easy to update.
