This was originated by Cirrus Logic, continued by Ambient & developed by intel, and is a very popular modem chipset. Not all modems will contain the Flash-ROM which allows upgrades.

The protocol used depends upon the driver version & Firmware:

  • 1.40 & higher - V.90
  • less than 1.40 - x2 (V.34)

These pages are a LAMP-development of the original Modem-Help, UK site (most of the old HTML pages still exist, but havn’t been updated for quite some time). That site, in it’s turn, was a transfer from the first html site on free-pages at Freeserve (still maintained, but just re-direction pages to this site).
