| general info: | All modem functions implemented in software. The host computer needs enough memory (win95/98/Me - min 32 MB, win2000 - min 64 MB) & CPU speed (above 400 MHz) to be effective (see conflicts below). Drivers seem to be interchangeable between modems (use at own risk). | ||

A software Linux- (Sep 2000) & Windows-only chipset that supports both V.90 and K56FlexTM. The original Windows modem driver-name was "Rockwell SoftK56 Data,Fax,Speakerphone PCI Modem" & by v2.05 had become "Conexant SoftK56 Data,Fax,Speakerphone PCI Modem" - the modem in Dial-Up Networking Properties (General page) will need changing if an upgrade causes a name change. Drivers seem to be interchangeable between suppliers (use at own risk).
This modem has caused much grief to many owners (cf Motorola SM56). It has the least number of chips on-board of all the Conexant modems, therefore the lowest cost & also the greatest number of modem functions implemented in software.
