general info:		Comes in PCI & ISA bus versions - each require a different driver. See also the AC-Link, CNR & MDC variants. Build 67.1 Latest ISA driver. Build 51 & later V.90 + K56Flex^TM. Build 50 & earlier K56Flex^TM only. Caution! There are 3 different PCI drivers.

known conflicts:		See Smart Link HAMR5600^TM for generic soft modem problems. Diamond state that their (ISA) modem is not supported under winMe nor win2000. Build 83.17 strongly recommended by Alex Boneff (11 July 2000). Build 70/80 3 different PCI drivers - use of the wrong driver will give connection problems (disconnection & system freeze reported with FS with Build 70). Build 62.1 Gives mostly-reliable V.90 connection & d/l with FS at V.90. Build 58 Needs setting to USA as country [Control Panel->Motorola SM56 Modem->Advanced tab->set Country] or slowing to V34 ["at%b18" no quotes in Extra Settings] in order to connect at all. Build 52+ Needs setting to USA as country ["at+gci=b5" no quotes] or slowing to V34 ["at%b18" no quotes] in Extra Settings in order to connect at all. Build 52 Unreliable V.90 with FS - d/l slows after high start. Beta Build 10 Unreliable with FS - d/l slows after high start.

A software Linux- & Windows-only chipset that supports both V.90 and K56Flex^TM with Speakerphone options. ISA drivers seem to be interchangeable between suppliers (use at your own risk), but there are 3 different PCI drivers. This modem has caused much grief to many owners (cf Conexant SoftK56). It is essentially a serial-port on a circuit-board with all modem functions implemented in software, & therefore low cost. Development of software for the ISA boards was abandoned in April 1999. 09 Jan 2002 Thanks to Michael House for (finally) a Motorola download address. 01 Jul 2001 Motorola SPD announces that it is discontinuing all soft modem products and future development.
