Both modem-help.com & modem-help.co.uk became unavailable in the late hours of yesterday until the wee hours of this morning. It was a router problem upstream from the co-location that I use which affected all web sites downstream of the router, through strangely not mail. Naturally, I was trying to work on the site myself. Here’s the announcement:

“The connection to one of our network centres suffered a misconfiguration tonight that was fixed within minutes, but seemed to cause a knockon failure at our upstream that has taken them five hours to fix.

The problem is that they are a recent amalgamation of a lot of companies and noone could work out who had authority to fix the problem and it took a lot of shouting to get anything done :(

Apologies for any inconvenience.”

And I echo that last sentiment to yourself, if affected.

PS As I tried to put this info together in the early hours of Wed morning (I work strange hours) sure enough - there is an outage on my telephone system. The difference is that that one was fixed in 30 minutes, not 5 hours.
