Welcome to Modem-Help, UK

This is the Home page of a site dedicated to providing assistance to modem users. “Modem” is used in the generic sense - links are provided for ISDN, Cable & Broadband (DSL & ADSL) modems as well as the more ‘traditional’ V.92, V.90, V34 & slower modems. This page provides info on finding the links to all other pages.

A new Database-driven version of this site has been developed and introduced to the web on 27 May 2003. It offers unrivalled search capability & is quicker and easier to update. Pages on this site are no longer updated & gradually will simply become re-direction pages to the new site.

If you think that Modem-Help has spammed you, or sent you a virus, It`s not me spamming you, honest (14 Mar 04).

There are four types of page on this site:
A-Z of Modem Manufacturers/Retailers/Trade Marked Names

Go here if you know your modem's trade-marked name, manufacturer or retailer. The page leads directly to individual Manufacturer's pages.

If this name is unknown:

Each manufacturer's page lists:
  • models
  • the model chipset manufacturer
  • whether or not it is hardware-flashable
  • whether it is a hardware or soft/controllerless modem
  • it's performance with different British/other ISP's
  • websites for flash- or driver-upgrades
  • notes on the modem model
  • manuals where available
  • (sometimes) other products
  • (sometimes) notes on the manufacturer

Modem Chipsets, What's My Modem?

Go here if you know your modem's chipset or have a reference number from a chip on the modem card. The page leads directly to the individual chipset pages.

Go here if the modem is completely unknown. The page usually allows the modem chipset to be identified & sometimes also the manufacturer.

Each chipset page lists:

Help & Information pages

There's a few of these. Some are:

A-Z Site Index

This is an old-fashioned, and extensive, index & contains links to all pages across the entire site. The index means that you are no more than 3 clicks away from any page on the site (no complaints, please!).

Viewing Info

The site is developed using HTML 4.0 features such as StyleSheets & Frames, and also uses IFrames to show Copyright information & mailing links plus a little JavaScript to show page dates. Any modern browser will work fine. You are recommended to view full-screen.

All links on the site give you a 5-second advertisement, then link you to the page. The impatient can click the ‘Skip’ link in the right-hand corner, and go straight to the page.
