| General Notes: Acer is a computer manufacturer rather than a modem manufacturer (although see also AOpen - part of the Acer group). All of the modems in Acer computers that I have seen are from other manufacturers. Drivers for some Acer modems are also at Radicom.
Modem drivers on the American site are found via the model. Modem drivers on the British site are listed separately & are found on the FTP site. All pages on all sites positively drip with Java script.
American Products: Business, home, servers, terminals, notebooks, monitors & networking products. British Products: American Support: Downloads are obtained via the computer model at this page. British Support: For the driver library start here. American Profile: The Acer Group was founded in 1976; world-wide headquarters are in Taiwan & it claims to be the third largest PC manufacturer in the world. The wholly-owned Californian group was established in 1977. It moved to its current campus in 1990 upon acquisition of Altos Computer & in 1997 took over the laptop business of Texas Instruments. | Upgrades at: Modular Technology or Askey. | |||||||||||
| Notes: A number of people have reported problems with these modems [supplied by Watford Electronics Ltd. & also known as Shine modems]. There is confusion as to whether they are re-badged STD Superhighway 56 or Askey modems. If the former, then iflash21.zip [internal] or eflash21.zip [external] from Modular Technology has been reported to fix problems [take care! - Modular does not use this model of the chipset]. Check the general Askey notes for the Askey id. program. The chipset comes in a 1 or 2 MB ROM, with internal and external versions, and voice options. BEWARE! as the correct version & type of flash is required or the modem will be dead, permanently [see Media Force]. |
